Ankle and foot pain can generally be characterised as acute (short term) or chronic. Acute foot and ankle injuries usually occur during running, walking, during sport, or as a result of tripping or falling from a height.
Chronic ankle and foot pain can be as a result of inadequately treated acute injury or poor body mechanics. Ankle/Foot problems can lead to pain, stiffness, weakness, reduced balance and inability to perform your normal activities.
Physiotherapy can help by taking a precise history, examining the area thoroughly, obtaining a diagnosis and treating the problem. This may involve hands on therapy, soft tissue work, exercises, taping, and balance retraining.
