strength

An Exercise Physiologist run group class where participants work on improving individual strength and balance goals, while in a supportive group setting. Exercises are tailored to each patient’s individual goals and deficits.

During your initial assessment with one of our Exercise Physiologists, medical history, current deficits and functional goals are established to create the perfect program for each patient. Exercise programs are then progressed as appropriate over time.

Benefits of Strength and Balance Training:

  • Prevention of Falls: Maintaining strength and balance is crucial for preventing falls, especially among older adults. Falls can result in serious injuries, such as fractures or head trauma, but having good muscle strength and balance can help reduce the risk.

  • Functional Independence: Strong muscles and good balance enable individuals to perform daily activities with ease and independence. Tasks such as walking, climbing stairs, carrying groceries, and getting up from a chair all require adequate strength and balance.

  • Injury Prevention: Strength and balance training can help reduce the risk of injuries during physical day to day activities. Strong muscles provide better support to joints and ligaments, while good balance helps prevent trips and falls.

  • Bone Health: Resistance exercises that strengthen muscles also help maintain bone density, reducing the risk of osteoporosis and fractures, especially as we age.

  • Metabolic Health: Building muscle mass through strength training can increase metabolic rate and improve insulin sensitivity, which is beneficial for weight management and reducing the risk of metabolic disorders such as diabetes.

  • Functional Aging: As we age, maintaining strength and balance becomes even more important for preserving mobility, independence, and quality of life. Regular exercise that includes strength and balance training can help older adults stay active and engaged in daily activities.

  • Enhanced Quality of Life: Strong muscles and good balance contribute to overall physical well-being and can improve confidence and self-esteem. Being able to move confidently and independently enhances quality of life at any age.
